80 MILLER / AUGUST 2019 “Nowadays, the prevailing approach in pest management is the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with emphasis on sustainability with the use of as less chemicals as possible. Through this approach, we invest most efforts in prevention, avoidance and monitoring so that control measures such as fumigation, would be applied only after all other alternatives were considered. Fumigants are among the most toxic pesticides in use; subject to injure people, animals and the commodity. The objective of this article is to provide basic information required before, during and after the performance of the fumigation.
