58 INTERVIEW MILLER / february 2021 The Republic of Colombia is the fourth-largest economy in Latin America, after Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, and has the third-largest population with approximately 49 million inhabitants. Aided by sig- nificant security improvements and steady economic growth in recent years, Colombia is becoming one of Latin America’s most attractive destinations for inter- national exporters and investors. With vast natural resources, a diverse climate, and varied topography, agri-business opportunities abound as Colombia’s role as a global food supplier continues to grow. Colombia’s Enrique Payeras CEO Colombia Milling and Agrobusiness Consulting “The Colombian flour milling industry is a matured and consolidated sector. In the past 2-3 years, its volume has grown at higher a rate because of exports of flour to Venezuela. As in most countries, the financial net margins in Colombia’s milling industry are extremely low. The flour market has concentrated mainly on offering new and good appealing final products to the consumer. I think Colombia with its approximate 50 million inhabitants is a very interesting country to both invest and have a commercial exchange.” Agribusiness doyen Payeras provides insights into Colombian flour industry Interview: Namık Kemal Parlak
