40 MILLER / aprıl 2021 NEWS The International Grains Council (IGC) forecasts glob- al grain production would climb to a record 2.287 billion tonnes in the 2021/22 season, but expects the larger supply to be entirely absorbed by higher consumption. In its first full assessment for the 2021/22 season, the in- ter-governmental body projected a balanced market, with stocks at the end of the period seen at 609 million tonnes, unchanged from a year earlier. The IGC forecast that global wheat production would rise to 790 million tonnes, up from the prior season’s 774 million with larger crops expected in several countries including ex- porters France (37.3 million versus 30.4 million tonnes) and Argentina (20.3 million versus 17.2 million). An expected drop in wheat production in Russia - to 76.9 million tonnes versus 85.4 million - limited the increase in global output. The IGC forecast 2021/22 world corn (maize) production at 1.193 billion tonnes, up from 1.139 billion in the 2020/21 season with the U.S. crop seen climbing to 384 mil- lion tonnes from the prior season’s 360.3 million. Global soybean production in 2021/22 was also seen higher at 383 million tonnes, up from 361 million in 2020/21, while rice output was seen climbing to 510 million tonnes from 504 million. IGC sees record global grain production in 2021/22 season Brabender GmbH & Co. KG introduces the Convimeter II for viscosity measurement and process control in production for the development of liquids and pastes. The Convimeter II opens the door for many measurement methods previously reserved for offline rheology to enter production environments. This supports the development of manufacturing processes and enables large-volume test- ing on a production scale. Highlights include the wide range of applications, charac- terized by a measuring range of 30 - 2,000,000 mPas for Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids, and the adjustable shear rate. Results are clearly displayed on the integrated touch display or across platforms. Inline measurements in production are possible both within a control station system and in stand-alone operation thanks to appropriate interfaces. The viscosity can be con- tinuously monitored using the history display, which shows the measured values of the last 20 minutes as a graph. Use for large-volume tests and the development of formu- lations is made possible by the high accuracy and special measuring programs such as the characterization function, which can be used to create viscosity profiles. The mea- surement protocols are stored digitally and are available for use in the network. Access to the functions can be custom- ized on a rights-based basis via the user account control. The Convimeter II is now available worldwide through the distribution network for all common operating voltages. Brabender introduces Convimeter II for viscosity measurement and process control
