44 MILLER / june 2021 NEWS Turkey's leading food company, Ülker, will bring new biscuit wheat varieties to the country's agriculture by implementing the 5+5-year "Biscuit Wheat Development Program" with Bahri Dağdaş International Agricul- tural Research Institute. Ülker, who brought a high yielding, high-quality wheat resistant to drought, disease and climate change to the agriculture sector with Aliağa Biscuit Wheat, a first in Tur- key, has started "Biscuit Wheat Improvement Program" together with Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Re- search Institute for new biscuit wheat varieties. With this program, new biscuit wheat varieties will be developed. Ülker CEO Mete Buyurgan stated that Turkey is among the important agricultural raw material importers and added, “For the continuity of our activities and the conti- nuity of the quality of our products, the sustainable sup- ply of agricultural products is among our priority issues. We develop projects and support research on sustain- able agriculture and raw material supply. After the Aliağa Biscuit Wheat Project, which we have successfully real- ized out together, we are now implementing the Biscuit Wheat Improvement Program together with the Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute to develop new biscuit wheat varieties. With the program, we will develop new varieties of biscuit wheat and offer our farmers the opportunity to choose among the variet- ies that can get the highest yield according to the climate and soil structure.
