59 MILLER / november 2021 NEWS Egypt, the world's biggest importer of wheat, will approve Latvian wheat as a new import origin with- in the next few days if it meets its safety and compli- ance conditions, Reuters reported. A delegation from the ministry met officials in Latvia on 29th October to discuss the possibility of adding Latvian wheat as an approved import origin as Egypt seeks to diversify its sourcing in the face of rising global prices, the head of the Egyptian agricultural ministry's central Administra- tion of Agricultural Quarantine, Ahmed Al Attar, said. “Egypt seeks to diversify its sources so that it won't be under pressure from any party, and to maintain its freedom of choice," al Attar told Reuters. Latvian and Egyptian officials also discussed boosting Egyptian agricultural exports to Latvia and the Balkan countries, an agriculture ministry statement said. Egypt to approve Latvian wheat as new import origin Omas Industries, a leading Italian company in the mill- ing industry, has obtained the prestigious ISO 45001:2018 certification for the management of safety and health at work.
